The Park now has a thriving fitness community
Take a look at the Fitness section of The Blog
In 2013 Sefton Council and NHS Sefton installed outdoor gym equipment across 37 sites within the borough (Moorside Park being one), the equipment was promoted as a “free community resource to encourage people to become more active”.
The feedback the Friends group received was that people did not feel confident to use the equipment (and they felt a little self-conscious).
We approached several local fitness companies about setting up a Community Fitness Session on the park on a 5 week pilot to gage interest.
We met with Pioneer Fitness who immediately understood what we wanted to create. We wanted to offer sessions which would be suitable for all ages and fitness abilities (including complete beginners). To introduce participants to the outdoor gym equipment and show them how to use this and other features of the park to create a full workout!Over the last 12 months the sessions have gone from strength to strength, we now have around 25 participants, aged between 8-74, many of whom prior to coming to the sessions hadn’t exercised for years. |

The sessions were awarded the Liverpool Echo Environment “Health & the Environment” award in May for this project, beating stiff competition from May Logan Healthy Living Centre and 3 times winner – Acorn Farm.
The sessions are held every Saturday between 1-2pm at the outdoor gym equipment
