Ben Falconer tells us about attending the Love Parks award ceremony and being crowned National Greenspace Young Volunteer of the Year……
On Thursday, 17th March, my parents and I travelled to Nottingham for the Love Parks Awards 2016. Louise, the Chair for the Friends group had nominated me for the National Greenspace Young Volunteer of the Year Award because I am on the committee and help out at events and do gardening and litterpicking. I was lucky enough to be shortlisted out of all of the entries, so travelled to Nottingham for the awards ceremony.
The event was held in Nottingham Town Hall, a very large and grand venue. The Dickie bow and black suit was very smart. When we arrived, a photo was taken of everyone who had been shortlisted for an award on the marble stairs of the Town Hall. Next we were seated and served a delicious three course meal. Sitting on our table as the Lord Mayor of Nottingham.
During the ceremony there were lots of awards such as the Environmental Award and Diversity award. When my category was announced I was very nervous yet excited. My name was called as the winner and I leapt out of my seat. I was the National Greenspace Young Volunteer of the Year! The whole experience was very enjoyable and lots of people congratulated me on my win.
