On 5th August, our brand new, fully refurbished M.U.G.A. (or multi-use games area to give it its full title) was officially opened The area was opened as part of the National Play Day event and the grand opening/ribbon cutting was carried out by Councillor Roche, who is a big supported of our group and the work we do so it was nice for him to do the honours.
We have been trying to get the improvements made in this area for over 3 years, we explored the possibility of applying for funding through Sport England but we had problems as it is in a public park and we don’t own the land. So when the council spoke to us about 12 months ago to say that there was £65,000 provisionally ear-marked for improvements within Moorside Park and what did we want it to be spent on……the obvious answer was to refurbish this area.
Earlier this year we asked local residents, park users and our members what type of features they would like to see included in the improvements, and we hope that we have managed to include all of the suggestions in the area!

The M.U.G.A. was designed and refurbished with Caloo (who also installed the outdoor gyms across Sefton) and we are absolutely delighted with the area. We hope that it will be well used by children, families, groups and schools in the future.
The committee are in the process of trying to secure some funding to run taster sessions of the various sports within the area (basketball, tennis, cricket, football and netball) which we hope will encourage even more people to use it!
So if you haven’t already been and visited the new area – then get yourself along and let us know what you think!
