Take a look at the Gardens section of The Blog
*** TO RESUME IN 2018***
In 2011, the Friends group were approached by Sefton Council regarding the possibility of getting rid of the Rose Gardens (due to the cost of maintaining this area). As a group we had worked hard with representatives from Parks and Greenspaces and English Landscapes to improve this area – as it is a fundamental feature within our park.
The group agreed to take over the maintenance of the area, initially there was only 5 volunteers, now we can have up to 20 volunteers coming along!
Our group have expanded from initially just working on the beds within the rose gardens, to improving the areas surrounding this area (to include the large herbaceous border, both entrances – Old Farm Road & the middle gate on Moorside Road).
Our volunteers meet on the 1st and gentle gardening (this includes – pruning, weeding, edging the rose beds), we have also managed to paint the fence around the rose garden and the benches over the last few months. We are always grateful of new volunteers and you don’t need to be an expert gardener as there is always someone on hand to help with guidance.
All tools, equipment and most importantly …….refreshments are provided.
First Saturday of the month between 10-11, for litterpicking
There’s a whole lot of planting going on …
