Wow, what a month October & November has been!! From being a member of the Moorside Park Run Club for nearly a year and a half, I would never have imagined I would be signing up and training for my first marathon! Jim Hicks has inspired us all by running the London Marathon this year and with 2 half marathons also under our belts this year and another just completed in November, the next obvious step is a marathon!
Myself, (Sarah) and three of my running buddies, Jim, Elizabeth and Chris, from the club all decided to go into the ballot for the London 2017 Marathon earlier this year. Unfortunately we found out at the beginning of October that we did not get into the ballot. Within 48 hours of this we were signed up for the children’s charity Action Medical Research to run for them and our team Action 4 Moorside was born!
Over the last 2 months we have entered the Beat the Reaper 10k race at Croxteth Park, which was a lot of fun and myself and Chris got PB’s which was great! We also tried a trail run at Speke Hall which was something different to where we usually run! Tougher then expected but great for training! We have also been training regularly with our Run Club meetings at Moorside Park, 6:30pm every Tuesday. Chris and I have been going out Thursday evenings running down by the beach and around Crosby and Jim and Elizabeth have been getting the miles in during their lunch breaks!! We also have regular Sunday morning meet ups where we run at least 10k! As the weeks and months go by we will look to increase our miles on a Sunday up to at least 21 miles before the big day on the 23rd April 2017!! We have all been trying to run at least 3 or 4 times a week to get the miles in and warm us up for the more intense training that will come.
I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead and the count down to London 2017 has officially started!!
